So 2021 is here, but sadly we start the year in another lockdown. Are we surprised? Well the answer is no, not really, but it is a real shame we find ourselves back here once again. 

However, here at 67 Degrees, we aim to start the year as we mean to go on - with determination, positivity and a healthier approach to the months ahead. It’s all too easy to get bogged down in the stress and worry that the pandemic brings, but we’re not having it anymore.

The festivities are over and it’s time for us to shape up as we dream of the summer sun and maybe even a holiday! We’re stepping it up a gear in January as we take on a 31-day team challenge to get us all moving and motivated.

Introducing the Step It Up Challenge! We’ve challenged ourselves to take as many steps as possible throughout the month to help us shift any unwanted Christmas weight, as well as improving our overall health and wellbeing whilst we work from home.

One week into the challenge and we’ve already determined that some of us are way more competitive than others! In just seven days, we’ve already smashed through over 500,000 steps between us - not too shabby, eh? 

According to the NHS, the average British person walks between 3,000-4,000 steps a day. We each aim to surpass this by altering our daily habits and making positive changes that we hope will last a lifetime. 

January tends to be a bit of a bleak month anyway and that teamed with the ongoing COVID pandemic, we desperately needed a pick-me-up to get ourselves through the cold days and dark nights. Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper competition without some prizes, so it’s all to play for with vouchers being awarded to the top three competitors. 

As for the rest of us, we’ll make do with a participants medal and a pat-on-the-back (socially distanced, of course). If we’ve inspired you to take on a similar challenge, then we’d recommend using the free app Stridekick. 

It’s a great little app that any smartphone, fitness tracker or device can be linked to in order to track your daily steps. Using the Leaderboard mode means that we’re able to compete against each other to see who achieves the most steps each day, alongside a running total.
